GDI fuel supply systems are more complex compared to conventional fuel supply systems. The injectors in GDI direct fuel injection systems inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber and must do so with extreme precision and at very high pressure. For this reason, a conventional fuel pressure gauge cannot accurately determine the pressure built up in the direct injection system.

The much wider range of fuel pressure in GDI fuel systems can be a challenge for other, more traditional pressure gauges, but due to its purpose-built PT640, it can easily read system pressure and communicate it to the user of the device.
